IDEA BUILDER Labs designs and delivers infrastructure to support the growing Advanced Manufacturing sector.

We strengthen our local workforce through cultivation of foundational STE(A)M skills, to foster sustainable local economies.

Key clients include school districts, universities, community colleges, local and regional governments, K-12 public and private schools. Our focus in education helps to create a fertile environment for innovation. As these programs gain traction, we are increasingly providing services to developers, local industry and small business.

Berkeley Unified School District

Consulting for development of brand-new STE(A)M facility and FabLab for Berkeley High.

Consulting for development of brand-new STE(A)M facility and FabLab for Westmoor HS.


College of Alameda

Design and build of new FabLab, funded under the CCC Maker grant program. Includes specific emphasis on CNC garment production equipment to support COA's ADAM (Apparel Design and Merchandising) program



Laney FabLab

Laney FabLab was conceived in 2012, opened in 2015. It has served as a model Bay Area FabLab, and a template for the California Community Colleges CCCMaker grant program. It's also a great example of the result of patient consensus building within an institution.


STAMP Curriculum

Established Skilled Trades & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. STAMP is a collaborative effort including the City of Oakland, Peralta Community College District, and other stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive curriculum across all Oakland schools.


Ravenswood School District

In a project funded by Google In collaboration with the Stanford Fab Learn program, IBL was hired to implement 5 FabLabs installed in East Palo Alto schools.

Castlemont HS FabLab

Our first FabLab, opened in 2014. We designed lab facilities, supported curriculum development, including summer and after school programming. Our partnership with Sustainable Urban Design Academy [was awesome / left SUDA stronger / led to increased adoption of FabLabs in OUSD].


OUSD Pre-Apprenticeship Program

IBL helped secure a grant from the CA Community College Chancellor's office to support the development of Pre-Apprenticeship programs in Oakland. The program will be supported by two new high school FabLabs (Skyline & Fremont schools).

Longtime FabLab evangelist, believer in hands-on learning, and champion of varied experiences for individuals.

Danny founded IDEA BUILDER Labs recognizing the need to draw on the best practices of FabLabs and industry for the best results.  He won't rest until every individual has affordable access to a well-equipped, professionally staffed environment to explore creativity and commerce.
